Auckland accommodation

Why publish a page about Auckland accommodation on a website that is dedicated to all aspects of a New Zealand camper van vacation? Well, if you're like us, when you travel to New Zealand you arrive in Auckland after a very long journey and you will definitely need a rest before you're ready to hit the road with your rental camper van. So have a good night's sleep and enjoy some of the attractions Auckland has to offer before you take off. (When you start your New Zealand camper van vacation in Christchurch, read our suggestions about Christchurch accommodation.)

Of course we have no idea about what kind of accommodation you prefer. A top class hotel? A guest house or a b&b? Or are you looking for budget accommodation, such as a backpackers lodge? Auckland offers accommodation for everyone, so we just would like to suggest three of the nicest areas of this city.

  • Auckland accommodation: city centre
First of all: the city centre. If you don't mind the noise of the city centre, and if you like to be within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants, theatres, nightclubs, cafés, art galleries, markets, etc., find yourself some accommodation in downtown Auckland (for example the Crowne Plaza). The city centre is located on the southern shores of the Waitemata Harbour, which makes it even more attractive.

  • Auckland accommodation: Parnell
Second, for those who prefer a little more peace and quiet, a hotel or b&b in Parnell (like the Ascot Parnell) is a good choice. Parnell is one of Auckland's oldest suburbs. Many of the old houses and shops of Parnell have been restored and it now is a very stylish area. Here you'll find many good and trendy restaurants (for every budget) as well as nice arts & crafts shops. Besides, it's still very close to the city centre and its attractions (only a few minutes by bus or a 15-minute walk).

  • Auckland accommodation: Devonport or Takapuna
Last but not least, the seaside villages of Devonport and Takapuna are a really nice place to stay when exploring Auckland. They are both situated on the North Shore. Devonport is, like Parnell, one of the oldest suburbs of Auckland. It too has beautifully restored old homes, a wide choice of restaurants, cafés, bookshops and small galleries, and some beaches. And again you're still very close to Aucklands city centre: the Devonport ferry takes you in about 15 minutes to the Ferry Building in downtown Auckland. Takapuna is a little bit further away (5-10 minutes by bus from Devonport), and has a nice, small beach with views of Auckland and the island of Rangitoto. The Emerald Inn in Takapuna is located close to this beach and the town centre with its shops and cafés.
